Req Description Field Service system engineer servicing Quality Control Systems (QCS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) in a paper making facility. This System engineer/Field Engineer will work as part of a two person team at the site. The ABB quality control systems installed at the customer site have multiple CD actuators and MD, CD and Supervisory control packages and a successful candidate will be capable of working independently and in a team environment. The installed systems are based on the ABB MasterPiece 280/1190, AC 450 QCS with PPA, 800xa, MOD 300 and other systems.

The Engineer will be required to plan and execute, with minimal professional guidance, complex semi-technical field assignments involving the preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, control tuning, installation, modification, test, inspection and/or repair of ABB and 3rd party products and equipment. In addition, the successful candidate will coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments. The engineer will also be expected to be abke to recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.  

Education Degree in engineering or related field plus 5 to 9 years of experience or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
 

Interpersonal Skills  

Work Experience Typical duties/responsibilities for field service may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills.
Perform scheduled PMs, and record results. Optimize scheduled PMs based on site conditions when necessary
Pefrom control tuning on MD, CD, and supervisory controls.
Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports.
Support customer's camera systems and historian systems.

Perform informal on-going training of customer personnel.
Manage spare parts inventory and advise customer on best practices in this area.

Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying own knowledge and experience. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs, and assist in determining resource requirements.

Lead the performance of assigned field services projects such as system control optimization and reduction risk of system failure. May be responsible for direction, analysis and reports involving complex projects.
Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.

All activites will be documented and reported on a periodic basis.

Requires thorough understanding of ABB and 3rd party products and equipment, engineering concepts and practices. Requires ability to select most effective approaches and adapting standard practices and procedures to resolve complex semi-technical problems. Requires strong communications skills and ability to lead less experienced staff. Decisions and actions are based on individual knowledge and experience and may affect quality, delay schedules and result in rework as assignments are not subject to close scrutiny. Highly complex problems may be referred to engineers or supervisor.
