Req Description BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION:
Customer Service encompasses the administration of customer service programs and can include technically trained individuals working directly with customers. It also consists of the development and implementation of proactive programs responsive to customer requirements and includes the coordination of investigations of complaints and assisting to achieve equitable solutions.

Manage a group and develop domestic and/or international business involving such matters as commercial agreements, proposal development, pricing development, risk assessment and sales strategies and resolve related, complex problems. Ensure that firm bids and orders received are at acceptable profit levels. Foster and implement measures to achieve cost savings and ensure customer satisfaction.

Typical duties/responsibilities for business development may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Manage or perform activities to identify and pursue new business opportunities utilizing ABB's resources and experience base in traditional and nontraditional markets worldwide. Participate in planning efforts with other ABB Sales and Business Development Managers. Establish and maintain close ties with customers and support groups.

Evaluate market conditions, prepare sales plans and forecasts, and develop cost-effective business strategies to achieve objectives. Direct the preparation of proposals, and determine appropriate technical and contractual approach consistent with the organization's objectives.

Develop action plans for customers and facilitate plan implementation by participating business units, business areas and sales. Establish business/market segment strategies to achieve growth/profitability objectives and increase customer satisfaction.

Organize and lead project teams consisting of various support groups in order to respond effectively to unique business opportunities and take advantage of unusual situations in the marketplace. Determine commercial viability of products and resources required.

Negotiate commercial features and arrangements with potential business partners, customers and internal groups while effectively representing the organization. Provide guidance and training to staff, establish standards, manage and document performance, and develop associated recommendations.

COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:
Requires strong communication skills to manage a group, and influence and negotiate with customers. Requires in-depth understanding of corporate and business unit technical and commercial strengths and interrelationships with markets, and ability to resolve complex problems. Requires strategic planning skills and ability to translate corporate and business unit goals and objectives into realistic marketing and sales plans.

Requires time split between managing service center (40%) and business development (60%). Foreign travel and availability for communications in any time zone may be necessary  

Education BS. MBA a plus.  

Interpersonal Skills Team building and growing  

Work Experience Experience with: service center management, business development, growing a service business, industrial/ utilities, EBIT, P&L, building and growing a team. Experience with Houston service market a plus. Experience with power service business a big plus (Medium Voltage, High Voltage or Transformers).

Position reports to the NAM Service Manager for the division.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering, business or related field and 8 to 12 years of experience. MBA or post-graduate management courses preferred.
